A local pastry chef wanted to have a website to highlight, catalog, and sell her products. Being that she’s local to NYC, she wasn’t ready to ship her cupcakes, cakes, chocolates, and other custom baked goods, just yet. So she wanted the site to “take orders.” Since most of her work is custom, she confirms all her orders that are placed through the website. Her products consist of everything from fudge to custom photos on cakes, so the catalog needed to be flexible, robust, and most of all intuitive (on both the customer and administrative side) to handle all the products. Customer reviews and social media integration to Facebook, Twitter, and MailChimp were requirements as well.

1.

Step 1

Due to the requirement of ease of overall site administration, WordPress was chosen to use. Shopp plugin was integrated into the site to handle the ecommerce portion. Custom development handled the manual processing of orders and the limited area being served.

2.

Step 2

Some HTML5 & CSS3 was used to enhance some of the elements of the website, such as the product images, blog posts, and overall layout of the website. SEO was taken into account early with regards to the development of the website.

3.

Step 3

Once the site was launched, Facebook and Twitter were integrated so that new products added and blog posts would push out regularly to the social media networks. MailChimp was used to gather email addresses for the newsletter, which runs regularly and highlights products and sales.
